Close to Salin-de-Giraud, for sure the wildest and least crowded Camarguese coast, you can find a commune that wouldn't be mentioned on every map : Beauduc. In fact, Beauduc is not what one may describe as a holiday village... Beauduc is the place of a long, flat beach of sand. Reaching the beach itself is not quite easy down the damaged roads in that salty land, no hotel there, and no thalassotherapy center as in the Saintes-Maries ; no rent in campings either. Winds get sometimes violent, and twirling sands may come in storms. Nevertheless, these little far pieces of earth, half lost, half hidden, give one of the most authentical and surprising aspects of the Camargue. As fishermen themselves used to do, a very peculiar housing standard stood out : along the side you can see an irregular succession of tiny woodhouses, lime-white sheds and caravans or even tents, especially when amateurs come there to practise water activities such as windsurfing or kitesurfing. Top-notch spot for a horse-riding trip, still spared by mass tourism and that keeps the secrets of the Camargue, one would be inspired to walk or ride up to the most beautiful lighthouse of Beauduc that stands proudly in front of the high sands constantly mixed at the mouth of the Grand Rhone ; and looking around for shells. A splendid week-end to come !
